Primary objective
The Senior Superannuation Officer works as part of the Operations team to ensure delivery of accurate and timely superannuation
and pension services to scheme members and their dependants in accordance with the rules and legislation governing the different
schemes administered by the NT Superannuation Office (NTSO).
Context statement
The NTSO administers the Northern Territory Government and Public Authorities’ Superannuation Scheme; Northern Territory
Supplementary Superannuation Scheme; Northern Territory Police Supplementary Benefit Scheme; the Northern Territory
Government Death and Invalidity Scheme; Administrators Pension Scheme, Legislative Assembly Members’ Pension Scheme
(LAMS), and the Supreme Court Judges Pension Scheme (Schemes). NTSO also provide advice to government on superannuation
guarantee matters. The focus of the NTSO is to deliver quality superannuation services in an efficient manner that meets the
expectations of fund trustees, members and employers.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Prepare, process, and certify applications for lump sum benefits and pension payments in accordance with the Superannuation
Act 1986 (NT) and other legislation, using the NTSO superannuation administration system, SuperB.
2. Attend to requests that are more complex from members in respect of their superannuation benefits including liaising with
agencies, initiating reviews, reconciliations and follow up actions.
3. Assist with the administration of, and compliance with, the Family Law Act 1975 and Family Law (Superannuation) Regulations
2025
4. Assist the Manager with supervision of staff to ensure scheme members, agencies and other stakeholders receive legislatively
compliant superannuation services in an efficient and professional manner.
5. Responsible for electronic data interfaces including investigation and resolving any irregularities
6. Provide guidance to other team members, and have a role in divisional projects, to achieve objectives and ensure that deadlines
are met.
7. Respond to complex superannuation enquiries from members regarding their entitlements under Scheme rules, taxation and
regulatory requirements.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation and policy.
2. Experience in dealing with personal information of a highly confidential nature.
3. High-level communication and interpersonal skills, including an ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
4. Demonstrated ability to manage own work performance and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
5. Effective analytical skills and demonstrated ability to use initiative.
6. Proven ability to prioritise work commitments and manage a team while maintaining a commitment to a high level of accuracy
and attention to detail.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of Northern Territory public sector conditions of service, personnel practices and procedures.
2. Experience with a computerised superannuation administration system or similar specific record keeping system.
3. Good knowledge and understanding of the Schemes.
