Purpose / Objective: Reception Volunteers work as part of a team as the first contact for clients, supporters and members of the community. The role involves ensuring a smooth flow of front-of-house, managing the front desk, assisting clients and staff with administrative tasks and responding to a range of enquiries and referrals.
Commitment: Minimum commitment of 6 months
Days and hours required per week: One day per week (5 hours), Tuesday or Thursday
Location: 43 Bedford Street, Newtown
Duties & Responsibilities
- Warmly welcome all individuals to the Centre as first point of contact and direct to appropriate person / program area
- Respond, navigate and direct enquiries received via telephone, via email or in person at front desk to the right person / program area
- Ensure safety practices are followed at reception; signing in/out, log book etc
- Effectively communicate with clients from a range of backgrounds and English-speaking levels, and address their enquiries
- Obtain basic details, information and documentation from clients to process a clear referral for services
- Process, allocate and distribute material aid requests
- General office maintenance and coordination, e.g. ensuring reception and front-of-house are tidy, restock stationery, replenish printing paper etc
- General administration tasks to support clients and workers; printing, scanning, mail distribution,
- Basic housekeeping when required
- Other tasks as needed
Selection Criteria
- Experience in working with people from various backgrounds and/or cultures
- Experience in administration, reception or customer service
- Intermediate computer skills (ability to use Gmail, Google Docs etc an advantage)
- Ability to work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers
- Flexibility and willingness to take on extra tasks as appropriate
- Ability to adhere to policies in relation to code of conduct, boundaries and confidentiality

- Support a child safe organisation by undertaking screening for suitability to work with children and vulnerable people and to comply with relevant state/territory legislative requirements and willing to provide NSW police check if requested
