The Role
We are seeking an experienced Platform Engineer (GCP) to join a high-performing Data & Analytics team based in Sydney.
This is a hands-on role focused on building, supporting, and evolving a large-scale cloud-native platform hosted on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You will play a key role in developing platform capabilities, automating delivery pipelines, implementing infrastructure as code, and improving operational visibility across enterprise-scale data services.
The ideal candidate will bring strong platform engineering experience, a passion for automation, and a proven track record of building reusable frameworks and tooling from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build CI/CD pipelines from scratch, including trigger configuration, branch strategies, approval workflows, rollback mechanisms, and multi-environment deployment processes.
- Develop reusable platform frameworks, shared tooling, templates, and platform components used by engineering teams.
- Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform.
- Support large-scale cloud-native platforms running on Google Cloud Platform.
- Develop and maintain metadata-driven ingestion frameworks and modular infrastructure solutions.
- Drive observability initiatives through monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and platform health reporting.
- Support onboarding of new teams and workloads onto the platform, including access management, security controls, connectivity, and infrastructure provisioning.
- Implement and maintain security controls across platform services and cloud environments.
- Collaborate with data, engineering, security, and infrastructure teams to deliver scalable and reliable platform capabilities.
- Contribute to platform standardisation, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
What You'll Need
- 5–10 years of experience in Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, DevOps, or a similar role.
- Strong hands-on experience building CI/CD pipelines from scratch using GitLab CI, Cloud Build, or similar platforms.
- Proven experience designing and building reusable platform frameworks, templates, shared libraries, and engineering tooling.
- Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
- Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform services including Cloud Composer (Airflow), BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud Run and Cloud Functions, Artifact Registry and Secret Manager
- Experience implementing platform observability using Dynatrace or similar monitoring solutions.
- Experience designing and managing platform onboarding processes, including IAM, access management, security scanning, and connectivity requirements.
- Strong understanding of cloud security principles and vulnerability management practices.
- Experience working with CI/CD automation, DevOps methodologies, and modern cloud-native environments.
- Knowledge of networking concepts, firewall rules, proxy configurations, and secure data transfer mechanisms.
- Experience with event-driven architectures, Kafka, or Confluent Kafka is highly regarded.
- Strong communication, troubleshooting, and stakeholder engagement skills.
