About the Branch
The Operations Branch is the manufacturing arm of the Mint. It is an operationally focused, multi-disciplinary team, responsible for the manufacture of both Australian and foreign circulating coin, collectable coins, and tooling to support those production requirements. The branch covers, coin manufacture, die preparation, blank preparation, electro plating and chemical processing, tooling and machining services, planning and packing.
In addition to meeting production targets, the branch has a strong focus on safety, continuous improvement, and quality. The Operations branch is currently embarking on a large program of uplift initiatives, providing a great opportunity for enthusiastic leaders to contribute to meaningful change and development.
About the Role
The Planning and Logistics Supervisor is responsible for systematic coordination of section priorities, enabling a small team to manage fulfilment and dispatch of circulating and commercial coin orders. They will support the Operations Branch to effectively verify and receive inward goods and manage storage and distribution of raw materials, finished goods, serialised inventory, spare parts, and consumable items. The Planning and Logistics Supervisor will systematically manage inventory management oversee the processing, destruction and disposal of withdrawn coin, obsolete materials, serialised inventory and master tools.
The Planning and Logistics Supervisor is responsible for managing and coordinating vendors and freight contracts, within the agreed terms and delegations, to ensure supplier service standards, capability and capacity are achieved. They will provide guidance on warehouse space utilisation, undertake risk assessments, create and maintain related work instruction and coordinate opportunities to continually improve processes.
The Duties
The duties of this position include:
1. Supervising a small team, providing performance feedback and identifying learning and development opportunities for staff
2. Oversee inventory management activities, including the receipt, storage, fulfilment, destruction and disposal of circulating coin, while maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
3. In collaboration with the Logistics Manager coordinate logistics operations, including circulating coin orders, vendor and freight contract management, cost centre administration, and inventory security.
4. Manage inventory systems by using and training staff in ERP systems, monitoring stock levels, analysing data, producing reports, and undertaking quality assurance activities.
5. Coordinate team priorities, work plans and operational objectives, adapting to changing business requirements while providing guidance to maximise storage efficiency and resource utilisation.
6. Prepare reports for senior management on inventory, storage, inward goods, withdrawn coin, serialised assets and operational requests to support informed decision-making.
7. Conduct risk assessments, review work instructions, and coordinate mid-year and end-of-financial-year stocktakes to improve processes, maintain inventory accuracy, and ensure compliance with organisational standards.
Security
This position requires a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
Qualifications
Experience using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems would be an advantage.
Qualifications in a related trade, manufacturing, engineering, project management, or any other relevant qualification are viewed as desirable.
