At Miss Frank Café, we're looking for someone who wants to build a career in hospitality. This role is designed for someone with a strong work ethic who is keen to learn every aspect of our kitchen and progress into a Larder Chef position as quickly as they demonstrate the skills and consistency required.
You'll start as a Kitchen Hand, learning our systems from the ground up, before being trained across food preparation, production and service. For the right person, there is a genuine opportunity to move into a chef role and increase your hours as your skills develop.
What you'll be doing
- Dishwashing and maintaining a clean, organised kitchen.
- Assisting chefs with daily food preparation.
- Learning recipes, prep methods and food safety procedures.
- Stock rotation, labelling and storage.
- Receiving deliveries and maintaining kitchen organisation.
- Supporting breakfast and lunch service.
- Learning our kitchen systems, workflows and quality standards.
As your training progresses, you'll move on to:
- Preparing display food and café menu items.
- Running the larder section during service.
- Opening and closing kitchen procedures.
- Ordering and stock management.
- Training new team members as you grow into the role.
What we're looking for
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Pride in producing clean, high-quality work.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy café environment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Someone who wants to build a long-term career, not just earn a pay cheque.
- Previous kitchen experience is helpful but not essential—we're happy to train the right person.
Hours
- Start on 2–3 shifts per week while learning the role.
- Progress to up to 5 days per week as you become confident and independent.
- Additional shifts may be available across our other Melbourne cafés for the right person, providing variety, extra hours and further development opportunities.
Why join us?
- Genuine career progression from Kitchen Hand to Chef.
- Structured on-the-job training.
- Support from experienced senior chefs.
- Work in a professional, supportive team that values quality and continuous improvement.
- Opportunity to work across multiple café venues and broaden your experience.
If you're motivated, eager to learn and want to fast-track your career in commercial kitchens, we'd love to hear from you.
