The Opportunity:
With over 80 years as a trusted name in Australian transport, we’re proud to also own and operate modern, state-of-the-art service stations designed to offer more than just fuel. Our Millicent service station and café provides a welcoming environment, quality food, and exceptional service to locals, travellers, and the transport industry.
As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a talented, passionate, and organised Chef to lead the kitchen in our busy Millicent café. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a stable and reputable business, lead a small team, and make your mark in a modern, well-equipped kitchen environment.
The successful candidate will have proven experience working in a fast-paced kitchen and a genuine passion for delivering quality food. Formal commercial cookery qualifications are preferred but not essential, as candidates with strong, relevant experience will be highly considered.
You will:
Prepare the kitchen and café for daily service, ensuring all stations are organised, stocked, and ready
Cook and serve fresh, high-quality meals including breakfasts, lunches, hot foods, sandwiches, and daily specials
Lead and support kitchen staff and casual team members to ensure smooth and efficient service
Maintain exceptional food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness standards in line with HACCP and regulatory requirements
Plan and contribute to menus, including seasonal dishes that highlight fresh local produce and appeal to highway customers
Ensure consistent food quality, presentation, portion control, and customer satisfaction
Support stock control, ordering, and supplier coordination
Work closely with store and divisional leadership to meet operational goals, control costs, minimise waste, and drive food sales targets
You will have:
Proven experience as a Chef, ideally within a café, roadhouse, pub, or high-volume kitchen
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage kitchen operations confidently
Experience planning menus and delivering appealing, practical food offerings
A hands-on leader who can support, guide, and motivate a small team
Passionate about food quality, presentation, and customer experience
Sound understanding of food safety, hygiene, and cost control
Reliable and flexible for full-time hours including early starts, evenings, and weekend shifts
Relevant Commercial Cookery qualifications (Cert III, IV, or Diploma) preferred but not essential as equivalent industry experience will be considered.
