About the role
This critical leadership role oversees a team responsible for shaping, protecting, and enhancing the reputation of the City of Parramatta.
The position involves the development and execution of integrated communications, engagement, and corporate affairs strategies that positively position the City and Council internally and externally, while developing and managing strategic partnerships and building trust with the media, staff, industry networks, government, business community, and key external stakeholders.
The role also oversees media issues management and crisis communications to safeguard Council’s reputation and ensure timely, coordinated responses to emerging risks.
The role is responsible for providing strategic communications advice and support to the Lord Mayor, CEO, and Executive Team.
In this role you will:
- Develop and deliver Council’s corporate affairs strategy across media, corporate communications, internal communications, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy activities.
- Build strong media relationships, increase positive media coverage, monitor reputational risks, and lead media issues management and crisis communication responses.
- Lead engagement with businesses, industry groups, key stakeholders, and strategic partners to support Council priorities, strengthen relationships, and enhance Council’s influence and reputation.
Deliver high-level communications advice to the Lord Mayor, CEO, and Executive Team, lead internal communications and training initiatives, and foster innovation and best-practice corporate affairs across the organisation.

About you
The successful candidate is someone who has:
10 years’ experience in communications and/or media relations, with a proven track record of achieving strategic objectives.
5+ years’ demonstrated experience in leading diverse, multidisciplinary teams and delivering services to a high standard to meet financial and other business performance criteria.
Experience in the development of integrated approaches to communications utilising contemporary social and digital channels.
Extensive experience in the effective promotion of a large and complex organisation.
Demonstrable detailed understanding of the relevant legislative and regulatory requirements applicable to the designated area and the ability to practically apply this knowledge.
