New Collections is an independent, Melbourne-based property business that acquires underutilised urban buildings and transforms them into curated destinations — combining retail, exhibitions, events, music and creative programming under one roof. We own the buildings and shape what happens inside them, working with designers, brands and cultural partners to make each space a genuine destination.
The role
The Development & Partnerships Lead plans, organises, directs and coordinates New Collections’ specialist joint venture, partnership and design collaboration function. Reporting to the Director, the role carries responsibility for the strategic planning, governance and managerial oversight of the arrangements through which our properties are created, curated and operated. It is a senior specialist management position central to the company’s strategic direction and decision making.
Key responsibilities
- Direct and control the company’s joint venture and partnership function, including the governance frameworks, standards and reporting that govern each arrangement.
- Lead strategic planning and contribute to executive decision making on the composition, curation and programming of the portfolio.
- Plan, organise and coordinate specialist designer, supplier and brand collaborations, setting the standards and criteria by which partners are selected and engaged.
- Establish and oversee the commercial terms, risk and compliance framework applying to joint ventures, partnerships and occupancy arrangements.
- Provide specialist managerial oversight of new property and market opportunities in Australia and internationally, advising the Director on strategic direction.
Skills and experience required
- A bachelor degree or higher qualification in business, commerce, property, design or a related discipline. At least five years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification.
- At least five years’ experience in a specialist management role covering strategy, governance and the oversight of joint ventures or partnership arrangements — ideally across property, design, media, music, brand or cultural sectors.
- A demonstrated track record directing and governing joint ventures and partnership agreements, including their commercial terms and risk.
- Established specialist designer and supplier connections across South East Asia and Europe.
- Sound judgement and the ability to work autonomously at a senior level, contributing to strategic planning and executive decision making.
