The Opportunity:
This is an opportunity to apply your expertise in a highly specialised environment while contributing to critical operational capability. As the Breathing Systems Engineer, you will provide specialist engineering expertise to support the sustainment of breathing systems, hyperbaric equipment, and charging facilities. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will deliver technical advice, lead engineering support activities, and work collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure safe, reliable, and effective engineering outcomes.
This is a permanent full-time opportunity and must be based in Sydney.
The successful candidate must hold a Baseline security clearance or higher.
Responsibilities:

Provide specialist systems engineering expertise for breathing systems, hyperbaric equipment, and charging facilities.

Deliver engineering support and engineering change activities in accordance with approved plans, policies, and engineering standards.

Lead systems engineering activities, including requirements management, integration, verification and validation, testing, and certification.

Provide technical oversight, engineering assurance, and risk-based advice to support safe and effective capability sustainment.

Conduct technical reviews, risk assessments, and engineering design evaluations within delegated authority.

Support configuration management, systems safety, certification, and engineering governance activities.

Review contractor deliverables and provide technical input to achieve quality, value-for-money, and risk-based outcomes.
As the ideal candidate you will bring:

A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or equivalent) in a recognised engineering discipline.

Strong engineering experience, ideally within a regulated or highly governed technical environment.

Experience in requirements development, design reviews, and engineering acceptance activities.

Eligibility for Chartered Engineer registration and membership of a recognised professional engineering body.

The ability to obtain an engineering delegation within an Authorised Engineering Organisation (AEO).

Australian citizenship (or permanent residency) and the ability to obtain and maintain a Defence security clearance.

Eligibility to obtain ITAR clearance for relevant systems.
Desirable
-
Experience delivering engineering outcomes within the Department of Defence.

Marine engineering design or maintenance experience.
-
Experience working with diving, breathing, or hyperbaric equipment.
All candidates will be required to hold and maintain an active Baseline Defence Security Clearance. Only candidates holding a Baseline Clearance or above should apply.
