The purpose of this position is to provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in: Critical Care practice, in a complex clinical environment within inpatient and outpatient areas in the public health organisation. The Critical Care (Anaesthesia) SRMO (PGY3- position provides an introduction to Anaesthetics for those doctors interested in a career in the specialty, as well as exposure to ED and NICU in order to develop related skills.
The SRMO will participate in a rotating roster including day and evening shifts but no night shifts during their anaesthetic terms. PICU and ED terms will involve rotating shifts including nights. The SRMO will undertake rotations within the Nepean Blue Mountains LHD (Nepean Hospital and Blue Mountains Hospital).
What you'll be doing

Patient assessment and management in consultation with the treating consultant.

Arrange for appropriate investigations and requests for consultations from other departments where indicated.

Interact with other health professionals in provision of ongoing clinical care to patients.

Provide clear verbal and written communication with members of the multidisciplinary team, as well as with patients and their families where appropriate.

Notifying the consultant in a timely manner of any significant changes in a patient’s condition or investigational results that may affect the management of the patient.

Ensuring that the management plan from the treating consultant is implemented.

Participate in after hours and weekend rosters.
Where you'll be working
-
Anaesthesia Department consisting of 70 Specialists and 26 Trainees.

Multidisciplinary Pain unit associated with the Department.

Over 19 operating theatres performing approx. 15,000 procedures a year, covering all major surgical specialities with the exception of cardiac and major paediatric surgery.

Anaesthetic services are also provided to endoscopy, medical imaging (MRI and angio), cardiac catheterisation lab and the Pre Admission Clinic.

Obstetric anaesthesia is provided to the Delivery Suite (3,700 deliveries/year) on a 24 hour basis.

Essential requirements

MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.

Completion of at least two postgraduate years by the time of commencement of employment, including demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in the last 2 years in a setting appropriate to the needs of the position.

Sufficient clinical experience in order to undertake the key duties for this role including a minimum one term in Emergency.

This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency. If the incumbent’s registration conditions include supervision requirements, the level of supervision must be able to be supported by the health agency for this role.

Good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.

Valid Working with Children Check, cleared National Police Check.

To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.
