As an Architectural Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting the design and documentation process, working closely with the project team to ensure design concepts align with the client’s vision, functional requirements and budget. You will assist in developing innovative designs, evaluating planning layouts, contributing to material selection and project coordination, and helping manage the flow of technical information among stakeholders. During documentation, you will produce complex drawings and detailed plans using Revit and other BIM technologies, ensuring technical documentation meets required standards and client specifications. You will communicate design intent through visualisations and documentation, while implementing quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and adherence to industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Project Management
Collaborate with project team to understand project goals.
When required, assist with the creation of innovative design concepts that align with the client’s vision, functional requirements, and with a general awareness of budget constraints.
Contribute to the evaluation of planning layouts to optimise functionality.
Contribute to presentation of design proposals to clients.
Assist in selecting appropriate materials to create cohesive design schemes. Consider factors such as sustainability, durability, maintenance, performance, aesthetic appeal, cost and impact on Country when choosing materials.
Refer to material trade information, Australian Standards, building codes and industry best practices that align with the design concept and client requirements.
Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and new design materials to incorporate innovative ideas into projects.
Documentation
Produce complex drawings and detailed plans for architectural projects using Revit and other BIM technologies. Ensure all technical documentation is accurate, meets the required standard, and is aligned with client and project specifications, and ultimately clearly and succinctly communicates the design intent to the contractor.
Assist in communicating design intent by developing renders and virtual walkthroughs to help clients visualise the final design.
Implement quality control procedures for all technical outputs. Review drawings and specifications to ensure they are free of errors and meet the highest quality standards.
Construction Phase Services
On occasion travel to and visit project construction sites to observe construction progress and assist in composing site reports like Site Quality Advice and Defect Inspection reports. Site visits may require travel involving both day trips and some overnight stays when required.
