The Plucked String is a welcoming music studio in Melbourne dedicated to providing high-quality music education in a supportive and inspiring environment.
As part of our continued growth, we are expanding to include music therapy services and are seeking a Registered Music Therapist (RMT) interested in running their own independent music therapy practice from our studio.
This is a unique opportunity for a therapist who would like to build or grow their private practice within a warm, creative studio community.
About the Opportunity
We are seeking a Registered Music Therapist to provide individual (and potentially small group) music therapy sessions from our studio.
The successful therapist will operate as an independent contractor, managing their own client caseload while working within our studio environment.
The therapist will be responsible for:
- Conducting client assessments and developing individualised therapy plans
- Delivering goal-oriented, evidence-based music therapy sessions
- Maintaining clinical documentation and progress reports
- Managing their own bookings, invoicing, and client relationships
- Liaising with families and other allied health professionals where appropriate
- Contributing to the development and visibility of music therapy services within the studio community
This is not an employment role — it is an opportunity for an independent practitioner to run their own service from our space.
Preferred availability:
Monday to Friday between 1:00pm – 4:00pm (flexible depending on client demand).
Essential Requirements
- Registered Music Therapist (RMT) with the Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA)
- Master of Music Therapy from an AMTA-accredited program
- Current Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance
- Valid Working With Children Check (Victoria)
- Current National Police Check
- Ability to work independently in a private practice setting
- Strong clinical documentation and report writing skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Desirable
- Experience working with children and neurodivergent clients
- Experience supporting NDIS participants and writing reports
- Experience in private practice or community-based settings
- Confidence in improvisational music-making (piano and/or guitar)
- Interest in collaborating within a creative studio environment
