Digital SEO/Search Specialist
At BIG W everyday’s a big day. For you, this could be the start of something big.
There are over 15,000 of us, in the biggest cities and the tiniest towns. And each of us has an important role to play to help make a real difference for families by providing real value, real solutions and real care.
If you have a passion for designing and delivering great customer and team experiences, a desire to join a business that is rapidly evolving into a purpose led digital retailer enabled by a great store network, and you’re looking for a place that cares about your development and growth, you could be who we’re looking for.
What you’ll do:
As our Digital SEO/Search Specialist, you will shape and execute the organic search and GEO strategy to boost traffic and maximize internal site search performance. Acting as a vital connector, you will bridge the gap between our external SEO agency and internal technology, eCom trade, content, and marketing teams. Your daily focus will involve managing the technical roadmap, tuning search relevancy, and leveraging AI tools to scale high-quality product content. Ultimately, you will ensure a seamless on-site discovery experience while optimizing the website for effortless navigation by both traditional search engines and modern AI bots.
Agency Management: Partner with the external SEO agency to monitor performance and uncover growth opportunities.
Technical SEO: Identify site issues, write clear briefs for Tech/Engineering teams, and ensure proper implementation.
AI & Content Strategy: Drive organic traffic by using AI tools to scale product content and buying guides, editing final copies to maintain brand voice.
UX & Merchandising: Align SEO with trading trends, create search-driven category pages, and integrate SEO copy seamlessly into the user experience.
Data Feeds: Ensure product data feeds are error-free and fully optimized for Google and AI bots.
Analytics & SEM: Track YoY performance and competitor trends, sharing simple insights and aligning with paid SEM teams.
Algolia Search Tuning: Manage Algolia's ranking formulas, index configurations, synonyms, and rules to maximize search relevancy and conversion.
Search Merchandising: Utilize Algolia tools to boost seasonal, high-margin, or branded products within internal search results.
What you’ll bring:
5+ years in dedicated e-Commerce or Technical SEO roles, preferably within retail and a proven ability to collaborate with and influence diverse teams without direct authority.
Technical SEO & Agile: Proven track record managing complex technical roadmaps directly with Product and Engineering teams.
Enterprise CMS: Hands-on experience optimizing content and site architecture (AEM experience highly advantageous).
Site Search (Algolia): Deep expertise managing enterprise site search platforms like Algolia, Bloomreach, or Search.io.
AI & Data Feeds: Experience scaling content via AI tools and managing product feeds in Google Merchant Center.
SEO Tools & Analytics: Proficient with Google Analytics, Search Console, Data Studio, and keyword research tools.
Communication & Copywriting: Strong ability to translate technical concepts simply, paired with sharp editing and brand voice skills.
