About US
Pacer WA is a leading air conditioning and refrigeration company committed to maintaining the highest operational and safety standards across Western Australia. We specialize in the design, installation, maintenance, and servicing of complex HVAC and refrigeration systems for commercial and residential clients.
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Engineering Technologist to join our dynamic team. This is a hands-on role focused on the diagnosis, optimization, and maintenance of advanced HVAC & R control systems. The successful candidate will support our service team in resolving complex technical issues; ensuring machinery operates with maximum efficiency and minimal downtime. You will play a key role in bridging the gap between engineering design and on-site implementation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Control System Design & Selection: Analyze building requirements to design comprehensive zoning strategies and select appropriate primary (thermostats, pressure stats) and secondary (expansion valves, solenoid valves) controls for both domestic and commercial projects.
- BAS/BMS Programming & Integration: Configure, program, and commission Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Building Management Systems (BMS) using industrial protocols such as integrate chillers, Air Handling Units(AHUs), and Variable Air Volume (VAV) terminals.
- Algorithm Development & Optimization: Develop, tune, and implement advanced control algorithms to optimize energy efficiency, manage defrost cycles, and regulate fan speeds
- Sensor Network: Design and integrate networks of digital sensors (temperature, humidity, pressure) and wireless devices into centralized Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems for precise real-time monitoring and adaptive control.
- User Interface Development: Design and configure touch screen panels and remote Wi-Fi dashboards that allow facility managers and homeowners to easily monitor system performance and control energy usage.
- System Commissioning & Testing: Lead the testing and commissioning of complex control logic, ensuring VAV dampers modulate accurately (0–100%), safety limits function correctly, and system sequences operate as designed.
- Advanced Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex faults in control logic, communication networks, and system integration issues that exceed the scope of standard trade technicians.
- Compliance & Technical Reporting: Prepare detailed technical documentation, performance reports, and compliance statements to ensure all systems meet current energy efficiency regulations and environmental standards.
- Cost Estimation & Quoting: Prepare detailed technical quotes and cost estimates for complex control systems, analyzing material, labor, and integration cost to ensure project viability and budgetary compliance.
About You
- Strong understanding of HVAC & R control systems
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults using technical manuals and diagnostic tools
- Knowledge of mechanical safety procedures and maintenance best practices.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Additional Requirements
- Physically fit and capable of performing manual tasks.
- Ability to work full-time (Monday to Friday) and be available for weekend work if required.
- Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.
