Bertas is a busy daytime venue in Marrickville, serving sandwiches, coffee, baked goods and drinks in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
We are looking for an experienced Venue Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day operation of the venue and lead our front-of-house team.
This is a hands-on management role. The right person will be comfortable leading from the floor, working behind the coffee bar and stepping into the kitchen when the business requires it.
About the role
As Venue Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining a consistently high standard across service, coffee, food, presentation and team performance.
You will work closely with the owners and management team to ensure the venue operates efficiently, the team is well supported and customers receive the level of hospitality Bertas is known for.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the venue’s day-to-day operations
- Managing, training and supporting the front-of-house team
- Overseeing coffee quality, workflow and bar operations
- Working regular shifts behind the coffee bar
- Maintaining fast, friendly and attentive customer service
- Coordinating between the front-of-house and kitchen teams
- Assisting in the kitchen when required
- Managing staff performance, standards and accountability
- Supporting rostering, labour management and shift coverage
- Overseeing ordering, stock levels and waste control
- Maintaining venue cleanliness, presentation and food-safety standards
- Identifying operational issues and implementing practical improvements
- Helping create a positive, organised and professional workplace
About you
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience managing a busy cafe or restaurant
- Has strong specialty coffee and barista experience
- Can confidently oversee coffee quality, training and bar workflow
- Is comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Has strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
- Leads by example and is willing to work alongside the team
- Understands labour control, stock management and daily venue operations
- Can remain calm, decisive and organised under pressure
- Takes pride in maintaining high standards across the entire venue
- Is available to work weekends
Previous kitchen experience is ideal. You do not need to be a qualified chef, but you should be confident working in a commercial kitchen and willing to assist the kitchen team when needed.
