About the Role
This is a Fixed Term Part Time position at 0.5 FTE or 43 hours per fortnight within the VFPMS.
The VFPMS Fellows are supervised in their day-to-day clinical practice by Sessional Specialist Paediatricians at the MCH and the RCH. Supervision of advanced training and regular supervision of clinical work is provided by RACP accredited supervisors in accordance with RACP curricula and as agreed with the Specialist Training Committees of the RACP.
As part of the multidisciplinary VFPMS team, the VFPMS Fellow provides direct clinical services for children when abuse, assault and neglect have been suspected. Consultations are provided at the RCH and the MCH. Fellows work at both sites for sessions during the day and cover both sites after hours when on call.
Classification for this position will range from HM27 to HM30.
What you’ll achieve:
Provide forensic medical examinations and reports for children and young people when abuse, assault and/or neglect have been suspected
Provide consultation and advice to patients and stakeholders of VFPMS (e.g. health professionals, police, Child Protection)
Collaborate with health and counselling services to ensure that children, young people and their families access the broad range of health, mental health and support services available to them
Your skills and experience
MBBS or equivalent
AHPRA registration (eligible for registration in Victoria)
Completed FRACP exams and undertaken some advanced training in paediatric medicine
About the Department
The Victorian Forensic Paediatric Medical Service (VFPMS) operates as a Centre of Excellence for Child Abuse and Forensic Paediatric Medicine. This means that the service
operates as a tertiary hospital referral centre,
provides 24/7 advice and secondary consultations for Victorian Health professionals, Police and Child Protection Practitioners,
has a leadership role in establishing standards, protocols and guidelines in relation to forensic paediatric medicine in Victoria,
serves as a central point for data collection and funding of fee-for-service consultations and
is a leading Victorian centre for teaching and research in the medical aspects of child maltreatment.
