What you'll be doing
Reporting to the Manager Financial Accounting, the position is responsible for the strategic leadership, management and oversight of financial transactions and accounting, reporting and salary packaging functions across the Network. The role provides high-level financial management, governance and specialist advice to ensure the integrity, accuracy and compliance of financial information in support of organisational objectives.
The position has delegated responsibility for ensuring compliance with NSW Ministry of Health accounting policies, Australian Accounting Standards, and all relevant legislative, statutory and government requirements, including GST and FBT. The role is accountable for maintaining robust financial control frameworks, monitoring performance against business and strategic plans, and driving continuous improvement in financial practices, systems and reporting to support decision-making and the delivery of health services.

- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or Business, and/or extensive experience in financial accounting, particularly in the public sector healthcare setting and full membership of an Australian professional accounting body or working towards same.
- Highly developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication, presentation and problem-solving skills necessary to build and maintain collaborative relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of and demonstrated experience in the implementation and monitoring of compliance with the Australian Accounting Standards, interpretation, accounting policies and procedures in public sector, preferably public health.
- Prior experience in managing financial month-end and year-end processes meeting strict deadlines in a high volume and complex public sector accounting environment with competing priorities ensuring accuracy, integrity, timeliness and completeness of financial records and reports.
- Demonstrated experience in the analysis and preparation of Accounting Position Papers on complex financial and accounting transactions; providing solutions that are compliant with contemporary policies, procedures and Accounting Standards.
- Experience in compiling public sector financial statements complying with the organisations accounting policies, reporting codes and Australian Accounting Standards and interpretations.
- Highly developed people management skills including team building and mentoring.
