Primary objective
Under the direction of the Environmental Services Manager, the Supervisor will oversee the performance of employees and their
productivity. Serving as an intermediary between the employees and senior management, the Supervisor will ensure daily activities
of the Alice Springs Hospital Environmental Services cleaning staff adhere to, meet Alice Springs Hospital Environmental Services
cleaning procedures, and Infection Prevention and Control policies, procedures and guidelines.
Context statement
The Environmental Services team provides cleaning services to Alice Springs Hospital and campus buildings. This includes the main
ward block, public and administrative office buildings, as well as on-site accommodation facilities. The role will also be responsible
for coaching, resolving issues, and serving as a link between cleaning staff and upper management. The ideal candidate will be an
individual who is process driven, able to guide and train employees in best practice. The goal is to ensure that operations are carried
out productively to ensure high level cleaning services are delivered at all times.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Oversee, supervise, and organise workflow, ensuring employees understand their duties and responsibilities and day to day
activities of the Environmental Services team.
2. Follow defined service quality standards, and work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
3. Assist with recruitment and training for new employees, and prepare and submit performance reports through the
Environmental Services Manager.
4. Monitor employee productivity, provide construction feedback and coaching to staff, and maintain timekeeping and personnel
attendance records.
5. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
6. Receive complaints, resolve problems, and pass on information from upper management to employees and vice versa.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven experience in a supervisory or relevant role, with demonstrated mentorship, training and development, communication,
time management and critical thinking skills.
2. Demonstrated initiative, reliability and punctuality.
3. Capacity to maintain confidentiality policies and procedures
4. Demonstrated knowledge of Environmental Services cleaning procedures.
5. Understanding of hygiene, infection control and WHS principles as they apply in the clinical context.
6. Preparedness and capacity to work shift work over a seven day roster with shifts commencing at times which suit area needs
including night duty.
7. Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Spreadsheets, and Outlook.
Desirable
1. Diploma/Certificate in first line management or relevant field.
2. Experience in rostering systems and guidelines would be advantageous.
