Your new role:
As an Independent Patient Rights Adviser, you will play a vital role in ensuring mental health consumers, their families, carers and support persons understand and can exercise their rights under the Mental Health Act 2016. Working independently and impartially, you will support consumers to have their voices heard, navigate complex processes and make informed decisions about their treatment and care.
In this rewarding role you will:
Provide independent advice on rights, responsibilities and protections under the Mental Health Act 2016.
Support consumers, families, carers and support persons to communicate their views, wishes and preferences.
Assist consumers in preparing for and understanding Mental Health Review Tribunal hearings.
Work collaboratively with mental health practitioners, legal representatives and community stakeholders.
Promote consumer-centred, rights-based approaches to mental health care.
Build trusted relationships with consumers from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
About you:
You are a compassionate and confident professional who is passionate about consumer rights and advocacy. You bring excellent communication skills, exercise sound judgement in complex situations and are committed to supporting vulnerable people with professionalism, integrity and respect.
You will demonstrate:
A strong commitment to consumer rights, independence, integrity and ethical decision-making.
Knowledge of the Mental Health Act 2016, or the ability to rapidly acquire specialist knowledge and apply it effectively.
Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse groups.
Strong negotiation, conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities, coupled with the confidence to work autonomously in a complex environment.
