The Role
We are seeking an experienced Linux Engineer to support critical infrastructure platforms within a secure government environment in Canberra.
This is a hands-on role responsible for the administration, support, automation, and ongoing improvement of enterprise Linux environments. You will contribute to infrastructure operations, platform modernisation initiatives, and system reliability across complex virtualised and hybrid infrastructure environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and support enterprise Linux server environments.
- Perform system installation, configuration, patching, hardening, and troubleshooting.
- Support infrastructure automation and configuration management initiatives.
- Manage and maintain virtualised Linux environments.
- Support platform monitoring, availability, and performance optimisation.
- Assist with infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and lifecycle activities.
- Work with infrastructure, networking, and security teams to deliver reliable solutions.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex Linux platform issues.
- Support continuous improvement and infrastructure modernisation programs.
What You'll Need
- Linux systems administration or engineering experience.
- Strong experience supporting RHEL, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, or similar Linux distributions.
- Experience with Ansible or other infrastructure automation tools.
- Experience supporting enterprise VMware environments.
- Strong understanding of Linux security, patching, and system hardening.
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals including DNS, routing, firewalls, and load balancing.
- Experience with enterprise infrastructure environments.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Experience in government, defence, or highly regulated environments would be highly regarded.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
