Position: Graduate Legal Officer – 12-month fixed-term

Role description
We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled Legal Officer to join our Collieries Staff Division, assisting staff in the coal mining industry. The role is based in NSW with travel to sites around NSW and occasionally interstate.
The role is varied in nature and include:
- Attending disciplinary meetings with members both on and off site;
- Attending and appearing in matters before the Fair Work Commission;
- Providing advice to the Director on contract reviews, employment, safety, award and interna matters;
- Attending and participating in enterprise bargaining; and
- Attending meetings with, and advocating on behalf of members in statutory safety investigations.
Selection Criteria
We are looking for candidates who have:
- Obtained or nearing completion of law degree;
- A demonstrated commitment to trade union principles;
- Strong legal and analytical skills;
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills;
- A current driver’s licence;
- A willingness to travel to site.
- Refined and plain language communication styles.
- Experience working for a union or other types of campaigning organisations is preferable.
Salary and conditions
Salary negotiable based on skills and experience.
Generous working conditions including hybrid work-from-home arrangements, 12 rostered days off per year and 4 days paid leave between Christmas and New Year.
A motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance may also be negotiated as part of the salary package.
