Primary objective
As a member of the school leadership team, the Business Manager provides strategic and operational leadership, advice and
management support in the areas of finance, procurement, administration, infrastructure and human resource including
management of administration and maintenance staff in a government primary school environment.
Context statement
Moil Primary School has an enrolment of approximately 200 students from Pre-school to Year 6. The school has five Intensive
English Unit classes that support students newly arrived in Australia. The school’s vision is to provide every student with the
opportunity to achieve their full potential within a respectful, safe and inclusive learning environment. The Business Manager plays
a key role in working with the Principal and leadership team.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Prepare and manage, in consultation with the Principal, the annual budget in line with the Annual Improvement Plan and School
Finance Governance guidelines for ratification by the School Council.
2. Provide leadership and overall supervision of administration (front office) and maintenance staff to ensure the effective delivery
of administration, infrastructure maintenance, procurement and school operational safety requirements.
3. Ensure the School Council responsibilities as an employer are met, including the administration of human resource functions,
payroll processing, and associated statutory and audit obligations in accordance with relevant legislative requirements.
4. Undertake and oversee the internal financial processes and procedures to ensure the provision of timely reports and advice to
the leadership team, School Council and external auditors, including the efficient management of grants and processing of
acquittals.
5. Monitor and improve business support systems, administrative processes and reporting practices to support efficient school
operations and compliance requirements.
6. Liaise and negotiate with external service providers to coordinate capital and minor new works, essential services and school
operational safety requirements to ensure they are effectively maintained and delivered.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience leading and delivering effective business support services within a government school operational
environment, including finance, procurement, administration, human resources, infrastructure and asset management.
2. Demonstrated experience in management and leadership of a service delivery team, including the ability to lead change, resolve
conflict, promote adaptability, flexibility and resilience, and maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality.
3. Demonstrated experience in the management of financial systems such as Ci Anywhere or similar, including the performance
of financial functions to ensure legislative, policy and end-of-year audit compliance requirements are met.
4. Demonstrated experience processing and reporting using complex payrolls and superannuation liabilities.
5. Demonstrated experience in the use of software such as CiAnywhere, Boxi, SRM Management System, Microsoft Office
programs and other relevant database software applications.
6. Demonstrated high level oral and written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to build and maintain
effective networks and collaborative partnerships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification in a relevant field such as Accounting or Business.
