Primary objective
As a member of the ASH Executive team, The Director of Aboriginal Engagement and Strategy Unit will provide strategic management,
advice and leadership across Alice Springs Hospital in a complex and diverse healthcare setting by facilitation of high-quality services
relating to Aboriginal Health, Cultural Safety, Policy, Research and Employment.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide strategic direction while leading operational service development, initiatives and provide high level advice to Acute Care
Services Managers and Executive on issues relating to Aboriginal Health, Cultural Safety, Policy, Research and Employment.
2. Manage the Aboriginal Engagement and Strategy unit, with accountability for financial, human resource management, workforce and
professional development to ensure services and resources are managed effectively, efficiently and in a well-coordinated manner.
3. Actively participate as a member of the Acute Care Services Executive team and participate in the executive after hour’s roster for
Alice Springs Hospital.
4. Prepare and provide reports, advice and recommendations to committees and the executive team in regard to Aboriginal Health,
employment, cultural activities, cultural safety processes, research and practices.
5. Effectively liaise with internal and external agencies and stakeholders to coordinate and facilitate services for Aboriginal consumers
and workforce, in all areas of Alice Springs Hospital.
6. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Identify as an Aboriginal person and accepted by the community in which you live, or formerly live.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of cultural issues, Aboriginal Health including social, economic and political issues affecting the delivery of
services to Aboriginal people especially in Central Australia.
3. Demonstrated experience of change management practices to embed new systems and processes into the organization, working within
a continuous improvement learning environment.
4. Extensive understanding of best practice in relation to the development and implementation of Aboriginal workforce policies, programs
and strategies.
5. Experience in establishing new networks and developing effective relationships within an organization and with external stakeholders
at the local, territory and national level to ensure the policies and programs reflect stakeholder needs, culture and values.
6. Demonstrated proven experience of managing self and others, forecasting and monitoring outputs and performance, leading change
and developing, setting and implementing policy directions.
7. Experience in influencing best cultural practice standards and departmental policy initiatives.
8. Demonstrated experience in budgetary, financial and human resource management – including, strategic business planning and change
management
Desirable
1. Ability to speak a local Aboriginal language
