We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our team on a part-time basis, ideally one day per week, at our South Hurstville office.
This role is ideal for someone with bookkeeping experience who is confident in trust accounting, BAS preparation, payroll administration, and LEAP accounting software, particularly within a legal or professional services environment.
About the Role
You will be responsible for the financial administration of the firm, ensuring compliance with legal trust accounting obligations while maintaining accurate financial records.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining accurate financial records, ledgers, and accounting data.
- Processing accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Reconciling general bank accounts and legal trust accounts.
- Managing trust accounting transactions and ensuring compliance with legal trust accounting requirements.
- Preparing and lodging Business Activity Statements (BAS) and supporting GST compliance obligations.
- Processing payroll and maintaining payroll records.
- Entering receipts, payments, invoices, and financial information into LEAP Legal Software.
- Assisting with legal billing, invoices, and matter-related financial administration.
- Preparing journal entries and maintaining the general ledger.
- Assisting with month-end and year-end accounting processes.
- Preparing financial reports and management accounts.
- Monitoring cash flow and following up outstanding accounts.
- Liaising with external accountants, auditors, and regulatory bodies.
- Identifying and implementing improvements to financial processes and systems.
About You
The successful candidate will possess:
- A bookkeeping, accounting, or finance qualification, or be currently working towards one.
- Experience using LEAP Legal Software, or the ability to quickly learn legal practice management systems.
- Strong understanding of trust accounting principles and legal compliance requirements.
- Experience preparing and lodging BAS, GST reporting, and general bookkeeping functions.
- Sound knowledge of payroll processing and statutory obligations.
- Excellent reconciliation skills with strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency in accounting and financial management systems.
- The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High levels of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality when handling sensitive financial and client information.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a law firm or professional services environment.
- Practical experience with legal trust accounting and trust account reconciliations.
- Advanced knowledge of LEAP Legal Software.
- Experience with BAS preparation, compliance reporting, and financial administration within a legal practice.
