Maintenance Fitter - Kiln | Oxley
About the Role
As a Maintenance Fitter - Kiln, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing and improving the site's kiln car fleet to ensure safe, efficient and reliable production. Kiln cars are among the plant's most valuable assets, and this role plays a key part in supporting operational excellence, production targets and continuous improvement initiatives.
Working closely with Production, Engineering and Maintenance teams, you will ensure kiln cars remain in optimal condition while maintaining high standards of safety, housekeeping and asset management.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Reliability
- Carry out corrective maintenance, including steel fabrication, welding and refractory repairs.
- Implement and continuously improve preventive maintenance programs, including:
- Wheel greasing
- Expansion joint maintenance
- Block positioning and refractory inspections
- Monitor kiln car condition, ensuring wheels, frames and refractory components meet operational standards.
- Coordinate kiln car movements with production teams to maintain optimal fleet availability.
- Identify and implement improvements to maintenance systems, equipment, tools, consumables and work processes.
Planning & Asset Management
- Maintain accurate kiln car service records, status reports and maintenance documentation.
- Monitor and manage stock levels of maintenance consumables and spare parts, including:
- Wheels, axles and bearings
- Steel and welding consumables
- Refractory materials and insulation products
- Provide regular updates and maintenance reports to the Engineering Team.
- Contribute to daily planning activities and support cost-effective maintenance practices.
Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain and promote WHS&E standards at all times.
- Participate in risk assessments and contribute to safe work procedures and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
- Review and improve maintenance procedures and work instructions.
- Maintain high housekeeping and 5S standards within the work area.
- Actively participate in toolbox meetings, improvement initiatives and problem-solving activities.
- Demonstrate ownership and accountability for equipment performance and reliability.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Trade qualification (Mechanical, Fitter, Boilermaker, Welding or similar).
- Welding experience is essential to this role.
- Experience in maintenance & fabrication.
- Strong hazard identification and risk management skills.
- Ability to work safely and follow maintenance plans and schedules.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and record-keeping capability.
- Ability to work collaboratively with operators, supervisors and site leadership teams.
- A proactive approach to continuous improvement and problem solving.
