Primary Focus
The Irrigationist Assistant is responsible for working with the Irrigation team in overseeing the use of water resources to maintain soil/substrate health, and crops to maximise the growing of all crops and fruit yield/produced.
The Irrigationist Assistant will help to develop, implement, and manage water budgets, create irrigation schedules, measure water usage and monitor plant health in consultation with the Irrigation Manager.
The Irrigationist Assistant is responsible for helping to ensure the team and the wider business operates safely and in line with any compliance frameworks, and completes training to ensure they successfully manage their tasks. This will require assistants to build and develop their skills and work towards organisational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting the development and implementation of all irrigation and irrigation related programs
- Assisting with scheduling all the fertiliser and chemical injection settings.
- Work to ensure the hydraulic parameters are suitable for the irrigation scheme.
- Assists with overseeing and maintaining all irrigation infrastructure including pumping systems In conjunction with the irrigation team to ensure timely decisions are made about climate and tunnel management and ensure these are communicated to the operations team
- Support the development of the internal propagation capacity and ensure plant material in line with quality and cost specifications.
- Walk and observe the crop at least daily to ensure timely changes to the irrigation programs.
- Identify and report issue areas to the wider team to ensure timely corrections.
- Assist with scheduling irrigation in line with the irrigation plan
- Work with the team to record water and fertiliser use and report on for each crop type.
- Help perform daily water quality checks and record results.
- Assist with completing accurate and detailed crop blueprints for each crop type.
- Ensure the irrigation team always operates in a safe way and lead improvements in managing key risk areas.
- Attend the weekly technical meeting to ensure engagement and understanding across the technical and operational teams.
- Enable collection and analysis of key technical data and timely reporting for the irrigation team reporting relevant information to coworkers when required.
- Represent Burlington Berries at industry events and engagements if required
- Contribute to the wider business strategy and vision across all areas.
Salary package for the successful applicant based on experience $70,000 to $80,000
