Parkinson Sharefarming Pty Ltd is a family- owned dairy farming business based at Kirkstall and Ballangeich in South West Victoria. A position for a Dairy Cattle Farmer has come up at Kirkstall.
This is largely a practical position, working directly with the farm manager to ensure the smooth day-to-day operations at the farm. Duties and responsibilities include:
- Report directly to the farm manager;
- Daily milking routines- Operate milking plant and equipment, yarding cows using ATVs, set up and shut down routines, dairy hygiene and basic maintenance;
- Within guidelines, identify issues and take corrective action where plant and equipment are not operating as usual;
- Operate and basic maintenance of farm machinery;
- Operate standard measuring equipment;
- Assist cows with calving, where necessary
- Monitor cow’s health and wellbeing, identify and treat common health issues, call and assist vets as necessary;
- Pasture and fodder management;
- Farm infrastructure maintenance and planning- plant and equipment, machinery, water and fences;
- Operate, maintain and evaluate computerised systems and records, and take corrective action within the manager’s guidelines;
- Work as part of a team, and at times independently and without supervision;
- At times, supervise and train new and junior staff members within the manager’s guidelines;
- Ability to understand and connect the farm’s operations as a whole, within the business and within the wider dairy industry;
- Assist the manager in identifying issues and creating solutions with regards to day-to-day farm management.
Salary: $80,000-84,000 pa + superannuation
Applicants with less than 5 years of recent dairy farming experience need not apply.
