The Role
Reporting to the Operations & Engineering Manager at our Brisbane site, this position is a technical leader who maintains a physical 'hands on' presence. Accountability includes performance of the workshop team and continuous improvement in all operational aspects.
Areas of Responsibility include:
Safety:
Environment Health & Safety (EH&S) - Maintain zero accidents and incidents while ensuring compliance to all EH&S regulations
Report all incidences promptly and in accordance with the safety management system.
Lead safety initiatives and improvements for area of responsibility
Act as role model for maintaining safety practices (including Psychosocial) and lead bi weekly safety tool box talks
People:
Supervise hourly employees to comply with production objectives, business policies procedures and guidelines.
Authorise weekly timesheets
Manage and coach team leaders to provide on-the-spot employee feedback with regard to performance and conduct
Support the Operations & Engineering Manager to perform annual performance appraisal, implementing (with direction from Human Resources and operations manager) disciplinary action where necessary.
Assist in developing goals and objectives for individual employees, functional teams.
Support Operations & Engineering Manager in recruitment initiatives
Monitor staffing requirements in relation to production demands of responsible area.
Manage, document and report employee conduct or behaviour issues to the Operations & Engineering Manager and human resources.
Conduct probation reviews.
Quality & Compliance
Act as Quality focal for responsible area, supporting audits and maintaining S6 standards
Lead quality investigations on incidents caused in area of responsibility
Ensure that activities remain in line with any airworthiness change or directive
Support external and internal Audits
Review and comply with all DWI instructions relating to relative area.
Oversee and ensure all documentation (electronic or hard copy) is signed off/stamped as tasks are completed progressively.
Delivery
Accountable for meeting throughput targets on cost and on time to plan
Offer production plans to meet schedulers requirement for delivery
Manage resource constraints and problem solve to keep production on track
Follow-up on concerns/issues raised at production meetings as required.
In conjunction with Tooling/Calibration representative, develop and document a preventative maintenance program for tooling and equipment used within the shop.
Ensure TPM is carried out as required and assess tooling requirements.
Coordinate with other departments to ensure that production demands are effectively being met from the standpoint of overall work flow and throughput.
Maintain KPI updates and communicate risk and recovery actions if off track
Training & Development:
Schedule and oversee training for all new and current departmental employees including trade assistances and apprentices
Assist with the development of technicians to handle commercial and customer contact
Facilitate new hire induction presentation and workshop tours
Other Duties
- Develop daily toolbox talk agenda items
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with all departments at all levels and attend meetings as required
- Encourage participation of employees in company initiatives
- Responsible for seeking opportunities to increase personal effectiveness, planning, development and training with their supervisor
- Lead Lean initiatives to improve process efficiency and staff utilization
Lead an annual CI strategy for responsible area, working with peers from other sites and departments.

Your Qualifications & Experience must include:
- Meets StandardAero competency achievement to Level 3
- Completion of grade 12 or equivalent with some post-secondary education
- Certificate IV in Aero skills theory
- Understand Australian and International Regulatory requirements
- Self-motivated, goal orientated and respectfully assertive individual
- Working knowledge of Pratt & Whitney Canada publications and work instructions including overhaul and maintenance manuals, parts catalogues and service bulletins
- Working knowledge of computer maintenance systems and Microsoft Office suite
- Methodical thinker with good organisational and multi-tasking skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to use basic hand tools
- Ability to use and care for precision measuring and torquing devices
- Heavy Maintenance Course on PT6A Engine or 2 Years experience as Engine Shop Technician on PT6A series
- Complete P&WC PT6A engine course
- Evidence of previous leadership role in small to medium sized teams
Familiarity with Vector Atlantic quality procedures and documentation including process documentation, parts routing procedures, engineering repair instructions, detailed work instructions and non-conformance report system
