About the opportunity
Mackay Regional Council is seeking a proactive and experienced Coordinator Project Compliance to help shape the delivery of key Council capital works, building projects and civil infrastructure across the region.
This is a hands-on coordination role where you will lead inspection planning for a team of five inspectors, coordinate quality, environmental and safety inspections, and support contractors and project teams to meet required compliance standards.
You will work closely with project managers, delivery teams, contractors and consulting engineers across a varied program of works, including roads, stormwater, parks, waste facilities, building projects, the Northern Beaches Community Hub and the Finch Hatton Mountain Bike Trail.
About the role
As Coordinator Project Compliance, you will provide leadership and coordination across project compliance functions, overseeing a team of inspectors and helping ensure that project delivery activities are well planned, well governed, well documented and aligned to Council expectations.
Key responsibilities may include:
- Coordinate workloads, priorities, inspection times and locations for a team of five inspectors.
- Oversee quality, environmental and safety inspections across Council-delivered capital works, building projects and civil infrastructure.
- Respond to contractor inspection requests and ensure inspections are scheduled, completed, documented and followed up.
- Liaise with project managers, contractors and consulting engineers to support consistent compliance practices and timely project delivery.
- Monitor contractor performance against contractual, safety, environmental, quality and project obligations.
- Review and maintain project records, registers, reports and compliance documentation.
- Identify compliance risks, gaps and improvement opportunities and support timely corrective actions.
- Support continuous improvement across project delivery governance, reporting and compliance processes.
- Build positive working relationships with internal teams, external contractors and key stakeholders.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring strong construction experience, practical compliance knowledge and the confidence to coordinate people, priorities and project requirements in a busy delivery environment.
We are looking for someone with:
- More than five years’ experience in a similar project compliance, inspections, construction, infrastructure, consulting engineering, contract administration or project coordination role.
- Strong practical construction experience across building projects, civil infrastructure or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate workloads, prioritise competing demands, meet deadlines and maintain accurate records.
- Sound understanding of quality, environmental, safety, compliance, risk, reporting and documentation requirements within a project or construction environment.
- Ability to interpret contracts, procedures, standards, specifications and legislative requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear reports, correspondence and briefing material.
- Well-developed stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work effectively with project managers, contractors, consulting engineers, technical teams and internal business areas.
- A collaborative, self-starting approach with leadership qualities and the confidence to guide a small inspection team.
- A continuous improvement mindset and a commitment to safe, compliant and high-quality project delivery.
Relevant qualifications in construction, engineering, project management, quality, compliance or a related discipline are desirable; however, substantial practical experience in construction, infrastructure, inspections or compliance will be highly valued.
