Council Solicitor
Temporary Full time until 31 December 2026
Band 8 Salary Range: $63.40 - $70.63 per hour plus superannuation
Location: Morwell, Victoria
About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Council Solicitor to provide trusted legal advice across the organisation. Working within the Governance team, you'll be the go-to legal expert for a broad range of matters, helping Council make informed decisions, manage risk and meet its legislative obligations.
In this varied role, you'll provide practical and commercially focused legal advice, review and negotiate contracts and agreements, interpret legislation and support governance activities. You'll work closely with leaders and stakeholders across the organisation, translating complex legal issues into clear, easy-to-understand advice that helps drive positive outcomes. You'll also manage relationships with external legal providers when specialist advice is required.

About You
You are an experienced legal professional who combines strong technical expertise with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. You have a proven ability to provide practical legal advice on complex matters and can translate legal concepts into clear, accessible guidance for a range of audiences.
You are highly organised, exercise sound judgement, and thrive in an environment where you can work autonomously while partnering closely with leaders across the organisation.
To be successful, you'll have:
- Current unrestricted Australian legal practicing certificate entitling to practice law in Victoria.
- Extensive experience in the provision of legal advice, particularly in contracts law.
- Excellent communication skills including presentation skills and the ability to prepare high quality written reports, policies, action plans, correspondence and other documentation as required. Strong judgement and a practical, solutions-focused approach.
