Mechatronics Engineer
Turn early concepts into real, testable sleep technology.
You’ll join Sleep Futures, a hands-on research and technology team focused on next-generation sleep products. This role blends firmware, signal processing, and system integration to bring early ideas to life. You’ll work across sensors, electronics, and embedded systems, building functional prototypes that can be evaluated for real impact. It’s a role for someone who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys hands-on development, and can shape direction through experimentation and learning.
What You’ll Do
Lead development of exploratory sleep products and embedded technology from early concept to functional prototype.
Design and integrate systems across sensors, electronics, firmware, signal acquisition, power, connectivity, and user interfaces.
Develop and debug embedded firmware for microcontroller systems, including communications, data acquisition, and low-power behaviour.
Apply digital signal processing to improve signal quality, reduce noise, and extract meaningful features.
Plan and run experiments, bench testing, and early verification to guide technical decisions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams across design, engineering, clinical, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory.
Deliver work within the Resmed Quality Management System, scaling documentation to concept maturity and risk.
What You Bring
Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical/Electronics, Biomedical, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Experience building embedded or mechatronic products, including prototyping, firmware, and system integration.
Strong hands-on skills with microcontrollers, sensors, embedded firmware, debugging tools, and prototype development.
Firmware development experience using C/C++ or similar embedded languages.
Ability to work in ambiguous environments while applying sound engineering judgement.
Nice to have:
Experience with wearable, consumer electronics, medical devices, or sensing-enabled products.
Knowledge of digital signal processing, filtering, sampling, and signal quality assessment.
Exposure to bio-signals such as EEG, PPG, motion, pressure, audio, or respiratory data.
Experience with Python or MATLAB for analysis.
Algorithm development experience, including feature engineering and model validation.
What Sets You Apart
Builder mindset - Enjoy turning ideas into working systems and learning through making.
Comfort with ambiguity - Move forward without full clarity and help shape direction.
Curiosity-driven - Ask questions, test assumptions, and seek better solutions.
Practical thinking - Balance experimentation with engineering discipline.
Collaborative approach - Work effectively across functions to move work forward.
