Leaf Café is an established retail food and beverage outlet operating through counter/QR ordering, takeaway and delivery channels located in Rouse Hill, NSW. As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Retail Manager to lead our day-to-day operations.
About the Role
The retail manager will organise and control the operations of the venue to provide retail food and beverage sales and customer service operations of a consistently high standard. The successful candidate will take responsibility for all aspects of the venue's performance, including staff management, financial performance, compliance with food safety and workplace health and safety obligations, product range, pricing and promotional offering decisions, and customer service standards and retail sales performance.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
· Determining the product mix, maintaining appropriate stock levels, and ensuring high standards of customer service for both café and retail operations.
· Formulating and implementing purchasing, merchandising, pricing, and marketing strategies to maximise sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
· Promoting and advertising the café's food, beverages, and retail products through in-store promotions, seasonal campaigns, and community engagement initiatives.
· Selling food, beverages, and retail products to customers, providing product recommendations, and resolving customer enquiries and complaints professionally.
· Maintaining accurate records of inventory, stock movements, sales, wastage, and financial transactions, and preparing reports for business management.
· Preparing and monitoring budgets, controlling operational costs, and implementing strategies to achieve sales and profit targets.
· Recruiting, training, rostering, supervising, and evaluating retail service employees and shift supervisors to ensure efficient operations and high-quality customer service.
· Ensuring compliance with all applicable food safety, workplace health and safety (WHS), liquor licensing (where applicable), and retail trading regulations.
· Planning and coordinating day-to-day café and retail operations to ensure efficient workflow, product availability, and excellent customer experience.
· Liaising with suppliers to purchase food, beverages, retail merchandise, and operating supplies while maintaining quality standards and cost efficiency.
· Coordinating promotional activities, seasonal displays, and special events to increase customer engagement and business growth.
· Monitoring the presentation, cleanliness, and maintenance of the café and retail areas to ensure a safe, welcoming, and professional environment for customers and staff.
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience
· Diploma of Hospitality Management, Business (AQF Diploma) or an equivalent qualification.
· A minimum of two years of full-time (or equivalent) experience as a Retail Manager, or in a comparable retail or hospitality management role.
· Demonstrated experience in managing day-to-day café and retail operations, including staff supervision, rostering, inventory control, merchandising, purchasing, and financial performance.
· Sound knowledge of retail operations, point-of-sale (POS) systems, stock management, budgeting, pricing strategies, and customer service standards.
· Working knowledge of NSW food safety, workplace health and safety (WHS), and relevant retail and hospitality legislation, including responsible service of alcohol requirements where applicable.
· Strong leadership, communication, organisational, and customer service skills, with the ability to motivate staff and manage operations effectively in a fast-paced environment.
· Proven ability to analyse sales performance, implement marketing and promotional activities, and achieve sales and profitability targets.
· Working proficiency in written and spoken English.
· Availability to work a rotating roster, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
· Legal entitlement to work in Australia. Australian citizens, permanent residents, and eligible visa holders are strongly encouraged to apply.
Desirable
· Current NSW Food Safety Supervisor certificate.
· Previous experience managing a café, coffee shop, or retail food and beverage business.
· Experience using retail and hospitality Point of Sale (POS), inventory management, and staff rostering systems (e.g., Square, Lightspeed, MYOB, Xero, Deputy or Tanda).
· Experience in merchandising, visual displays, and implementing promotional or marketing campaigns to drive sales.
· Knowledge of inventory forecasting, supplier negotiations, and stock loss prevention.
· Previous experience managing a business in the local area or a high-volume customer service environment.
· Experience analysing sales reports and implementing strategies to improve profitability and customer satisfaction.
