The Obstetrics term at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) provides junior doctors with a comprehensive and rewarding experience in the care of women throughout pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, trainees are actively involved in the assessment and management of antenatal and postnatal patients, labour ward care, emergency presentations and complex obstetric cases. Under the supervision of experienced Obstetricians, Advanced Trainees and Midwives, doctors develop skills in clinical decision-making, patient-centred care and the management of both routine and high-risk pregnancies.
As a major tertiary referral hospital, RNSH offers exposure to a diverse patient population and a broad range of obstetric presentations, including maternal medicine, multiple pregnancies, fetal complications and obstetric emergencies. What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the role is to provide effective medical services to patients under supervision in a complex clinical environment. The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Senior Medical Officer (SRMO) is the key person who works closely with all members of a multi-disciplinary team and deals with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature, whilst exercising discretion, sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality. Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the SRMO skills, knowledge and experience. They will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO). All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding a patient’s care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.
