THE ROLE
As a Solicitor in the Care leaver claims team, you will be required to provide timely legal advice and representation for key stakeholders that is strategic and practical, under the supervision of your manager. Your advice must be clear, accurate and outcomes-focused.
Your legal work will focus is on civil proceedings initiated in relation to alleged historical institutional abuse and personal injury matters. It may also include advising on a broad range of legal issues, statutory interpretation and administrative law matters. You will manage sensitive litigation matters such as personal injury matters and general civil litigation claims, and may support related special projects.
The role requires the exercise of sound judgment, initiative and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues across the department.
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE
- Provide well-reasoned legal advice, briefings and correspondence.
- Collaborate with departmental colleagues to deliver client focused legal services.
- Provide litigation support, including to prepare litigation materials, briefs and instruct counsel and contracted solicitors on the State Government Legal Panel.
