Finance Engineer | Expression of Interest
Brisbane QLD | Open to candidates across Australia | Full Time / Contract
Finance is changing. The close is getting shorter. Reports that used to take days are being built in minutes. Compliance processes that lived in spreadsheets are running on agents.
We have been watching this build for 12 months. We finally have a name for it.
The Finance Engineer.
Why this has come up
Two problems brought us here.
The first is ours. We do not have enough Finance Engineers in our network. The businesses we work with are moving seriously toward agentic workflows and AI-enabled finance functions, and when they get there, they are going to need the right people. We are not going to sit idle and wait for that to happen.
The second is bigger. Finance is moving faster than most people realise. There are finance teams of five or six people running billion-dollar businesses. The CEO of JPMorgan built a Treasury workflow in twenty minutes using Claude, solo, on a weekend. The tools that used to require a developer, a consultant, and six weeks of scoping are sitting in a browser right now.
We want to be at the forefront of connecting the people who are already building with the businesses that are ready for them. That starts with knowing who you are.
What we are looking for
The Finance Engineer sits across two worlds and is capable in both.
Finance fundamentals
- Financial close and month-end processes
- FP&A: budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Financial controls, compliance, and audit readiness
- Management reporting and board pack preparation
- AP/AR, reconciliations, and transactional finance
- Financial modelling and scenario analysis
Engineering layer
- Automating the close, forecasts, and reporting using AI tools
- Vibe coding: building functional tools using Claude, Cursor, or Codex without a developer
- Connecting AI to live finance data through MCPs and APIs
- Building and running agents that execute workflows end to end
- Testing and evaluating AI tools on real finance data, not sandboxed demos
- Designing data governance frameworks that support audit readiness and long-term scalability
- Translating complex, unstructured datasets into clear recommendations that drive real decisions
- Building and connecting finance systems through APIs, data pipelines, and integrations
- Documenting what you build so it runs without you: architecture that is sound and built to last
Systems literacy
- ERP agnostic but ERP literate. You understand how financial data is structured inside enterprise platforms: chart of accounts, GL architecture, cost centres, and how data flows between modules.
The mindset
- You see the finance function as a machine to build, not a set of tasks to survive
- You automate the routine and never settle for how things have always been done
- You are comfortable learning and testing tools in real time without waiting for a course
- You ask what the ROI of this AI actually is
- You are already building outside of work. Tools, automations, agents. The Finance Engineer is not something you are trying to become. It is already what you are doing.
Why connect with us
The mandate is there. We are working with businesses that are genuinely ready for this hire and ready to give you the room to build. That is not always easy to find.
Here is what connecting with us looks like in practice:
- We will send you our Finance Engineer position descriptions so you can see exactly how we are positioning this and where you fit
- We will have a conversation to understand what you are building, where you are at, and what kind of environment you need to do your best work
- We will connect you with peers in the market. We are building a community of Finance Engineers across Brisbane and Australia, sharing resources, knowledge, and opportunities
- When the right role comes up, and they are coming, you will be the first to know
To apply
Submit your expression of interest below and tell us what you are building. A workflow, a dashboard, a model, an agent. Anything that shows us how you think.
We will be in touch.
