Primary objective
As part of the school leadership team, provide educational leadership and management and implement departmental and school
based policies and programs to achieve optimal educational outcomes for students.
Context statement
Wanguri Primary School is an urban primary school catering for students from Preschool to Year 6 in the northern suburbs of Darwin.
The school has a rich multicultural school population of approx. 410 students. The school promotes high expectations for all students
through a safe learning environment with a focus on student’s social and emotional wellbeing. The school is committed to holding
high expectations for all students as well as maintaining a culture of continuous improvement, particularly around analysis of data to
improve learning outcomes.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead, monitor and coach staff teams in the delivery of quality learning programs with a focus on Early Years.
2. In collaboration with the Leadership Team provide leadership in building the capacity of teachers to implement a comprehensive
curriculum using effective teaching practices.
3. Support the Leadership Team in the provision of the most effective human, financial and physical resources in accordance
with departmental policy, to meet the identified needs of the school community.
4. Provide effective leadership in the development, implementation and monitoring of the school’s Strategic Plan.
5. Provide effective leadership in the development, implementation and monitoring of data systems and processes.
6. Lead, monitor and coach staff to analyse, maintain and use student data for student growth.
7. Provide advice, through on-going monitoring and reporting to the principal, on strategic, educational and administrative matters
in order to achieve quality educational outcomes.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in strategic leadership that has resulted in the development of strong strategic improvement agendas
leading to improved student learning outcomes for Early Years students.
2. Strong systemic understanding and demonstrated experience in influencing sustainable improvement.
3. Proven ability to model best teaching practice and be committed and capable of leading pedagogical change linked to Science
of Learning, Teach Like a Champion and explicit instruction linked to recent research and aligned to the school’s Strategic Plan.
4. Experience in leading and coaching teams through Responsive Instructional Coaching to plan and implement engaging
curriculum and learning experiences, enhanced through creativity and innovation.
5. Demonstrated experience in leading Inclusion including, Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with
Disability (NCCD) processes and referral and Multi-Tiered System of Support, in a school environment that caters for and
responds to the diverse needs of students and cultures.
6. Demonstrated ability to utilise strong interpersonal skills to support and develop productive partnerships with students, staff
parents and the wider community.
Desirable
1. Experience with Step Lab
2. Knowledge and experience of Berry Street Education Model
3. Experience with NQS
4. Knowledge and experience of Synthetic Phonics Program (Sounds-Write)
5. Relevant post-graduate tertiary qualification in educational leadership or equivalent
