Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and hands-on BESS Field Engineer to support Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across Australia (NSW, QLD, SA).
This role involves frequent and extended travel depending on project locations and schedules. The successful candidate will support installation verification, commissioning, testing, technical troubleshooting, system validation and on-site technical coordination to ensure the successful delivery of utility-scale energy storage projects.
The ideal candidate will possess a solid engineering background with the ability to interpret technical documentation, analyse field conditions, investigate technical issues and collaborate effectively with customers, contractors, suppliers and internal engineering teams.
This role focuses on technical support, commissioning assistance, system verification and troubleshooting activities. Any work requiring statutory trade licensing or site-specific electrical authorisation will be undertaken in accordance with applicable Australian legislation, site procedures and relevant authorisations.
Key ResponsibilitiesSite Delivery & Commissioning
- Support BESS installation, commissioning, testing, energisation and site acceptance activities in accordance with approved procedures and site safety requirements.
- Assist with the execution of commissioning procedures and completion of project documentation.
- Conduct installation inspections, verification activities and punch list closure.
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), system validation and technical verification.
- Coordinate with appropriately authorised personnel where licensed electrical work or other regulated activities are required.
Technical Troubleshooting
- Perform technical fault diagnosis and system-level troubleshooting for:
- Battery System
- Battery Management System (BMS)
- Power Conversion System (PCS)
- HVAC / Chiller System
- Fire Suppression System
- Auxiliary Systems
- Analyse alarms, operational logs and field conditions to identify potential root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Resolve software, configuration and system integration issues using engineering judgement, approved documentation and diagnostic tools.
- Provide technical support during fault investigations while complying with site procedures and applicable safety requirements.
- Escalate issues requiring licensed electrical work, equipment repair or regulated maintenance activities to appropriately qualified personnel where required.
Engineering Interpretation
- Read and interpret:
- Single Line Diagrams (SLD)
- Electrical schematics
- Wiring diagrams
- Layout drawings
- Commissioning procedures
- Develop an understanding of system interactions and support engineering decision-making during project execution.
- Verify field conditions against engineering documentation and report any discrepancies.
- Support engineering teams in implementing approved technical solutions.
Communication & Stakeholder Coordination
- Act as the on-site technical interface between customers, OEM suppliers, EPC contractors and internal engineering teams.
- Coordinate technical information and issue resolution with:
- Battery suppliers
- HVAC / Chiller vendors
- Fire protection vendors
- PCS suppliers
- Other project stakeholders
- Facilitate technical discussions and support timely issue resolution.
- Prepare technical reports, meeting minutes and project progress updates.
- Maintain professional customer relationships and contribute to successful project delivery.
RequirementsEssential
- Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience in field engineering, commissioning, technical service or industrial project delivery is highly regarded.
- Ability to independently investigate, analyse and resolve basic system-level technical issues within approved procedures and individual competency.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Customer-facing experience is desirable.
- Comfortable working independently in dynamic site environments.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently and stay at remote project locations for extended periods.
- Current Australian Driver Licence.

- Electrical Licence or relevant site electrical authorisation is advantageous but not essential.

Pay: $38.00 – $60.00 per hour
