Senior Finance Officer
Are you an experienced finance professional with a passion for accuracy, process improvement, and delivering high-quality financial services? The City of Melville is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Finance Officer to join our Finance Team and play a key role in supporting the City's financial operations and strategic objectives.
Reporting to the Senior Accountant, this position is responsible for coordinating the Accounts Payable function and ensuring the timely, accurate, and compliant processing of supplier invoices, payments, reconciliations, and financial transactions.
Location: City of Melville Civic Centre
Salary: Level 5/6 $87,078.06 to $100,783.70 pro-rata p.a. + 12% Super
Employment Type: Permanent Full Time
What You’ll Be Doing
- Coordinate and oversee the efficient operation of the Accounts Payable function, ensuring compliance with legislation, policies, and internal controls.
- Manage month-end Accounts Payable activities, including reconciliations of control accounts and subsidiary ledgers.
- Prepare monthly payment schedules and reports for Council.
- Process and reconcile superannuation payments for contractors and elected members.
- Supervise and support Accounts Payable Officers, allocating workloads and providing guidance to ensure service standards are met.
- Process accounting transactions and journal entries while maintaining the integrity of the general ledger.
- Develop, document, and maintain accounts payable procedures and workflows.
- Contribute to business improvement initiatives, system enhancements, and digital transformation projects.
- Build effective relationships with suppliers, banks, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely resolution of issues.
- Assist with budget monitoring and financial management activities within the Finance team.
What We’re Looking For
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Certificate or Diploma qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in Accounts Payable or a similar finance function.
- Sound knowledge of financial processes, internal controls, GST requirements, and compliance obligations.
- Experience using TechnologyOne (Finance One) or a comparable ERP system.
- Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-focused approach.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
- A current National Police Clearance or the ability to obtain one.
