Primary objective
As a key member of the school leadership and management team, develop, deliver, monitor and evaluate learning programs
across a range of curriculum areas, and lead the provision of wellbeing and support to staff and students.
Context statement
Sanderson High School is an established institution located in Darwin’s northern suburbs. It currently serves approximately
450 students in Years 7 to 10, with this number expected to change as the school progressively introduces Years 11 to 12
over the next 3 years. The school’s feeder zone includes the suburbs of Anula, Karama, Malak, Northlakes, and Wulagi;
however, many students, including those enrolled in the Intensive English program, come from areas beyond the designated
zone. Sanderson High School’s vision of Excellence in Learning is embedded in balanced educational programs that meet the
needs of every student in a safe and supportive environment where students are guided to act with respect, compassion
and integrity, and to give everyone a fair go at all times. The school’s emphasis is on learning that is interesting, relevant and
achievable with a strong focus on literacy, numeracy and wellbeing.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide leadership advice and support to staff in the areas of teaching and learning, wellbeing, behaviour management,
innovation and initiatives to improve literacy and numeracy outcomes for all students.
2. Coordinate the year 10 cohort and work positively with them to improve attendance, outcomes and an orderly learning
environment.
3. Work in a team environment to coordinate the tracking of NTCET patterns for students in year 10, 11 and 12. Work
with students, families and teachers to best aid student completion.
4. Effectively communicate across the school community with parents, students, teachers and the wider community.
5. Effectively implement the school’s pastoral care, behaviour management and wellbeing policies within your role as a
year level coordinator.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated successful experience in leading school improvement teams to achieve the school’s strategic
improvement goals e.g. Leading data informed evidence-based practice.
2. Proven ability to actively work with South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE/NTCET) and responsibly track
student progression to ensure students are on track for completion in their appropriate pathway.
3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to operate as an educational leader to
successfully initiate, lead, manage and respond to change with innovation and flexibility.
4. Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills to lead effective teams and build positive relationships
with students, parents, staff and community in a cross-cultural environment.
5. Demonstrated ability to model behaviours and attitudes consistent with the values of the Department of Education and
Training.
Desirable
1. Recognised post graduate qualifications or further study in educational leadership.
