See yourself working here
As a Senior Structural Engineer, you'll be working with a small team of Structural/Civil Engineers to provide technical leadership in the design, assessment and delivery of critical electrical infrastructure and buildings across Ausgrid's network, primarily supporting assets operating at 132kV and below. You'll balance office-based design work with site visits, inspections and technical support to field and project teams, ensuring safe, practical and fit-for-purpose engineering outcomes. The role offers ambitious candidates the chance to not only excel in structural and civil engineering but expand their leadership capabilities through the management of multi-disciplinary teams.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Undertake and lead structural and civil engineering design activities across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects.
- Visit sites to undertake inspections, assess asset condition and provide technical support during project delivery.
- Collaborate with project teams, field staff, consultants and stakeholders to deliver practical, cost-effective outcomes.
- Review and approve designs, ensuring safety, quality and compliance requirements are met.
- Provide expert advice to resolve complex engineering and asset-related challenges.
- Identify and manage engineering risks to support safe and reliable asset performance.
- Mentor engineers and designers while contributing to continuous improvement in engineering practices and standards.
What you bring to the role
We're looking for an experienced Structural Engineer who can combine technical excellence with practical problem-solving, stakeholder engagement and a commitment to delivering safe, high-quality engineering outcomes.
To be successful, you will have:
- A degree qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering, with eligibility for Chartered membership of Engineers Australia.
- Extensive experience delivering structural engineering design across complex engineering or infrastructure environments.
- Strong knowledge of Australian Standards, the National Construction Code and engineering design best practice.
- The ability to solve complex engineering problems and provide practical, risk-based solutions.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence technical outcomes across multidisciplinary teams.
- Work collaboratively across various functional groups.
- A commitment to safety, quality and engineering excellence, along with a current driver's licence and willingness to undertake site visits.
Highly regarded:
- Experience in steel tower design.
- Civil and stormwater design.
- Experience in the management of multi-disciplinary teams during the feasibility, development, design and documentation phases of projects and programs.
- Relevant post graduate engineering qualifications.
