HR Manager – Lead the people function of a growing mining company
Monday – Friday | Full-time | Kilmore & Sunday Creek + Melbourne
6 Month Initial Contract | HR Team | Start July – August 2026
We’re looking for a senior HR generalist to lead our people function as Sunday Creek scales from exploration into development.
Why SXGC?
Because your work here matters.
SXGC is a growing company moving from exploration into development of one of Australia’s most exciting gold and antimony discoveries. The workforce is scaling fast – from around 90 people toward 200 and beyond – and the HR function is well-resourced, well-systemised and genuinely valued at executive level. For an experienced HR generalist, that means real scope, real autonomy and a chance to shape how the company grows.
About the Role
Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the HR Manager leads SXGC’s people function – the most senior HR role reporting below the Chief of Staff. You’ll own our people systems (HiBob, Predictive Index, EVP administration), drive the Building Best in Class People and Performance Strategy, and progressively build the industrial relations framework as the workforce matures toward production. The role works closely with the Chief of Staff on workforce architecture and the CFO on payroll integration.
What You’ll Drive
Lead the people function and drive the People & Performance Strategy across all phases
Own HiBob as the single source of truth – data quality, automation and leader adoption
Hiring and onboarding – PI administration, structured interviews and the 30-day program
Quarterly talent reviews, nine-box assessments and succession planning
Employee relations advisory and complex case management
Contribute towards the industrial relations framework – EA strategy, awards and classification
EVP, leave, remuneration and STI/LTI administration in partnership with the Chief of Staff and CFO
Leader capability programs and culture transmission as the company scales
Who You Are
You’re a senior HR generalist who can operate strategically and execute personally – comfortable shaping policy in the morning and resolving a complex ER matter in the afternoon. You bring credibility into IR conversations, keep systems disciplined, and back high-quality work with clear, direct communication.
Your Working Style
This role suits someone who is naturally outgoing, persuasive, and energised by working with people across the business. You’ll build trust quickly, communicate with warmth and confidence, and bring others along through influence rather than instruction. At the same time, you’ll balance that sociability with real precision and respect for established process – moving at pace without losing accuracy, and following through on commitments to others consistently and constructively.
✔ Connect quickly and build genuine rapport with people at every level of the business
✔ Communicate persuasively, with a teaching and influencing style rather than a directive one
✔ Stay precise and rule-conscious even while working at a fast pace
✔ Like clear expectations and take pride in delivering consistently high-quality work
✔ Are comfortable leading conversations and exploring new approaches to problems
✔ Follow up on delegated work closely and cheerfully, correcting issues in a constructive, supportive way
We use the Predictive Index as part of our hiring process to help us understand working style fit for this role.
Your Background
✔ 8+ years HR generalist experience, with senior or functional-lead exposure
✔ Strong industrial relations background, including EA readiness or negotiation experience
✔ Demonstrated ownership of an HRIS – HiBob experience a plus
✔ Track record across hiring, onboarding, talent reviews and leader capability programs
✔ Comfortable advising executives and operating with autonomy in a growth environment
✔ Tertiary qualification in HR, Industrial Relations, Business or related discipline
✔ Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel between Kilmore, Sunday Creek and Melbourne
