We are currently looking for an experienced Optical Dispenser to join a Melbourne practice on a casual basis.
This role suits someone who is confident across all areas of dispensing and is comfortable stepping into a functioning clinic, picking up ongoing patient work, and maintaining a high level of accuracy and care without extensive handover.
You’ll be working alongside optometrists and support staff in a coordinated clinical-retail environment where efficiency, attention to detail, and correct dispensing outcomes are key.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this casual role, your responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing prescriptions and advising on appropriate lens options
- Assisting patients with frame selection and suitability
- Completing accurate measurements including PDs and fitting heights
- Managing a mix of straightforward and more complex dispensing work
- Handling adjustments, repairs, and resolving dispensing issues
- Supporting optometrists during patient appointments and follow-ups
- Processing orders and ensuring records are completed correctly
Shifts will vary depending on clinic requirements and will suit someone who can quickly settle into existing processes and contribute effectively from the start of each shift.
About You
We’re looking for someone with:
- Previous experience in optical dispensing (minimum 2–3 years preferred)
- Strong understanding of optical lenses, prescriptions, and frame fitting
- Confidence working independently within a clinical-retail setting
- High level of accuracy and consistency in all dispensing tasks
- Clear, professional communication with both patients and clinicians
- Ability to adapt quickly and work efficiently in a structured environment
- A practical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
