About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Male Disability Support Worker to provide person-centred support to a non-verbal participant with high support needs.
The participant communicates using an AAC device (LAMP Words for Life) and requires full assistance with daily living and personal care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide full personal care, including toileting, continence care, hygiene and dressing.
- Support daily routines and activities of daily living.
- Follow established support plans, routines and safety strategies.
- Support the participant with communication using their AAC device.
- Safely and appropriately respond to behaviours of concern and emotional dysregulation.
- Provide calm and consistent support during periods of distress.
The participant may display self-injurious behaviours, including:
- Hitting himself
- Biting his hand
- Head banging
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience supporting high-needs participants.
- Strong experience with personal care and continence support.
- Experience managing behaviours of concern and emotional dysregulation.
- Confidence supporting self-injurious behaviours.
- Experience working with non-verbal participants and/or AAC communication is highly regarded.
- A calm, patient and compassionate approach.
- The ability to remain composed during challenging situations.
- Strong commitment to safe, respectful and person-centred support.
