Kerang District Health is seeking an experienced and proactive Grade 5/After Hours Coordinator (AHC) to join our senior nursing team. This leadership role ensures the safe, effective, and compassionate delivery of care across all departments during after-hours periods, while supporting the hospital’s strategic and operational goals.
About the Role
As the After Hours Coordinator, you will:
- Act as a key resource for nursing, medical, and allied health staff, as well as patients and their families.
- Provide direct clinical care and carry a patient load across all shifts.
- Coordinate hospital operations during off-hours, including patient admissions, staffing, and resource allocation.
- Ensure compliance with the Safe Patient Care Act and uphold high standards of clinical governance.
- Liaise with relevant personnel to manage bed availability and patient placement.
- Support ward areas by ensuring adequate nursing and support staff (including PSAs and orderlies).
- Lead and participate in emergency and disaster planning, and coordinate staff and patient movement during emergencies.
- Facilitate resolution of public relations issues, escalating to the CEO or Director of Clinical Services as needed.
- Maintain quality control of nursing services and oversee staff allocation during rostered shifts.
- Participate in strategic forums and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
To be successful, you will need:
- Bachelor of Nursing and current registration with AHPRA
- Minimum 5 years post-registration experience in acute medical nursing
- Recent management experience at ANUM level or higher
- Strong understanding of the Safe Patient Care Act and hospital emergency protocols
- Advanced clinical skills and knowledge of best practice standards
- Excellent interpersonal skills including conflict resolution, negotiation, and mentoring
