This is a senior leadership opportunity within ASIC's Regulatory Legal Services team, where you will lead high-performing legal teams providing strategic, complex and expert legal advice across ASIC's regulatory functions, including Digital and Data Initiatives, Registry Advice, and Regulatory Advice.

The team
The Regulatory Legal Services team, within ASIC's Legal Services Group, delivers expert legal advice across ASIC's non-enforcement regulatory activities and plays a key role in supporting ASIC's reputation as a modern, effective regulator.
The teams provide specialist legal advice across:
- Digital and Data Initiatives - supporting major technology programs and initiatives
- Registry Advice - advising on registry operations, statutory functions and related legal matters
- Regulatory Advice - advising on complex, novel and high-risk regulatory and law reform matters as well as legislative instruments
The role
As Regulatory Counsel (EL2), you will lead a team of senior legal professionals to deliver high-quality, strategic legal advice that supports ASIC's priorities.
About the roles
Digital and Data Initiatives
Lead legal advice on ASIC's key technology and digital transformation programs, supporting complex initiatives such as RegistryConnect.
Registry Advice
Provide strategic legal advice on ASIC's registry operations, including statutory functions, review processes and matters supporting registry services used by businesses and government.
Regulatory Advice
Deliver expert legal advice on complex regulatory matters, including law reform, legislative instruments and high-risk or novel issues impacting ASIC's remit.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading, developing and mentoring high-performing legal teams
- Providing trusted, independent and strategic legal advice to senior stakeholders
- Overseeing complex legal matters across regulatory, registry and technology-related initiatives
- Building strong stakeholder relationships across ASIC to enable informed decision-making
- Providing regular updates to the Deputy General Counsel, ensuring visibility of key matters, progress against team plans, and delivery of agreed objectives
- Driving continuous improvement, innovation and capability uplift within Legal Services
- Identifying and managing legal risks across ASIC's operations
About you
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Relevant legal qualifications and eligibility to hold a practising certificate
- Preferred experience of 8-10+ years, with strong leadership capability and solid technical legal expertise
- Demonstrated experience as a senior lawyer and leader in complex environments
- Strong experience providing strategic legal advice on regulatory or public law matters
- Proven people leadership capability, including coaching and developing teams
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Strong judgement, adaptability and ability to manage competing priorities
- Experience in government, regulatory or large complex organisations (desirable)
