The Opportunity
The Principal Surface Water Engineer – Portfolio Technical Lead will provide technical leadership, governance, and strategic direction for surface water engineering across MinRes’s iron ore and lithium portfolio. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Water, this role provides portfolio‑wide oversight of surface water strategies, flood protection planning, design governance, and modelling systems across all hubs, including Onslow, Central Pilbara, and Lithium.
You will drive technical excellence, manage cross‑hub consistency, and ensure robust, defensible engineering to manage flood risks, surface water infrastructure performance, and operational readiness. While primarily based at Osborne Park, you will undertake occasional site visits to support complex technical discussions, stakeholder engagement, and project reviews.
- Lead portfolio-wide surface water engineering strategies aligned to mine plans, operations, and approvals.
- Provide technical leadership and quality oversight across the surface water engineering function.
- Oversee surface water modelling, flood studies, design criteria, and technical outputs.
- Drive consistent standards and governance for flood protection, drainage, and stormwater infrastructure.
- Provide strategic input on complex surface water issues affecting operations, planning, infrastructure, and approvals.
- Lead and mentor surface water engineers to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions.
- Support wet-season readiness and work closely with key teams to deliver integrated, risk-based outcomes.
What is required?
- Tertiary qualifications in Civil, Water, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 15+ years of surface water engineering experience, ideally within WA’s mining and resources sector.
- Proven technical leadership across multiple operations in a multi-commodity environment.
- Strong expertise in surface water modelling, flood studies, drainage design, and water management systems.
- Experience developing engineering standards and governance frameworks, with the ability to mentor senior engineers and communicate complex issues clearly.
