About the Role:
The key role of the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary Security officer is to provide an overnight presence around the sanctuary to protect collection animals and company assets within the boundaries of the sanctuary. The position of Security Officer reports directly to the Curator.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensuring that you answer ALL calls and or messages through the security phone.
- Actively aim to prevent damage to property in extreme weather situations by early notification of issues to the appropriate manager and taking actions within your own skill set to fix the problem (fix it or reduce it, don’t just watch it). This includes turning on generators to power essential equipment and keeping drains clear.
- Regular perimeter fence checks and securing the sanctuary by closing and locking entry gates
- Checking and securing of all buildings within the sanctuary
- Observing that all animals remain within their designated enclosure and following the correct procedures if not
- Reporting any unusual activity from either animals or people
- Reporting any enclosure entries you have made and reason
- Ensuring the safety of Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary animals by removing/ organising the removal of potential threats (snakes/ toads) when required
- Follow specific instruction as left by vet, curator, keeping staff and retail managers
- Maintaining the operation of the electric fence and reporting any faults
- Effectively use the “QR Patrol” app to record your checks, animal observations and any incidents that occur during your shift. The average number of logged QR scans per night should be 85.
- Checking fridges are on, lights are off, and gas levers are off.
- Being punctual
- Adhering to and understanding all SOP’s required for each department relevant to your role
- Adhering to the Code of Conduct, Policies and Procedures
- Ensuring that all equipment used during shift is kept in working order
