Save-A-Dog Scheme (SADS) is seeking a dedicated, skilled, and compassionate animal
attendant to join our team as a casual.
This role is primarily based in our cattery at our Glen Iris facility, with occasional shifts
required at our Yarrambat facility.

About the role
As an animal attendant, you will be responsible for the daily care and husbandry of cats in
our care, ensuring their welfare, cleanliness, and overall wellbeing are maintained to the
highest standard.
Key duties and responsibilities
Daily cleaning, feeding, and maintenance of the cattery
Monitoring and accurately assessing animal health and behaviour, reporting any
abnormalities promptly
Administering medication and treatments as required
Maintaining accurate and detailed records for all animals in care
Ensuring strict hygiene, infection control, and isolation practices are followed
Handling and caring for council impound cats
Communicating with members of the public
Supporting general shelter operations
Assisting in dog kennels if required (training provided)
The ideal applicant will have:
Demonstrated experience working with cats in a shelter or pound, veterinary clinic,
boarding facility, or similar environment
A relevant qualification/certificate in the animal industry
Strong animal handling skills, with the ability to safely manage cats of varying
temperaments
Proven ability to identify and monitor changes in animal health and behaviour
High level of accuracy in record keeping and documentation management
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Victorian car licence
Ability to work independently, show initiative, and be self-motivated
Excellent communication and people skills
Reliability and flexibility across shifts, which may involve weekends and public
holidays
Commitment to animal welfare and ethical care standards
Highly regarded (but not essential):
Experience in a council pound or shelter environment
Proficiency using Sheltermate/Shelterbuddy software
