Fairvale High School is a co-educational, comprehensive high school in South-West Sydney, proudly serving a diverse, multicultural community. The school successfully caters for the academic, social, and wellbeing needs of approximately 1,314 students, with 97% from a language background other than English. The predominant cultural groups include Vietnamese, Arabic, and Assyrian. Approximately 18% of students are from a refugee background and there are currently 25 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students. Seven diverse learning classes cater for students with autism, mild intellectual disability, and moderate intellectual disability. The school has a Family Occupation and Employment Index of 170.
The school employs 150 teaching and non-teaching staff members, including four deputy principals. Staff are highly dedicated and collaborative, fostering a caring and inclusive school culture that values high achievement, strong relationships, positive wellbeing, and educational excellence.
Fairvale High School offers a broad and balanced curriculum, which includes VET pathways, designated EAL/D classes, and timetabled Literacy and Learning Support classes. Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
1. Proven ability to provide strong instructional leadership through the application of explicit, evidence-based teaching and learning strategies, resulting in improved student outcomes and sustained high value-added performance
2. Demonstrated success in enhancing student engagement in mathematics, with experience in initiating, implementing, and evaluating school-wide numeracy programs
3. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven capacity to collaborate effectively as part of a dynamic school community and a high-performing executive team, actively contributing to the implementation of the School Excellence Plan and strategic priorities
4. Believing in equity and excellence for all, extensive experience in providing high-quality learning opportunities tailored to a diverse range of students, including those identified as HPGE, EAL/D and from a refugee background
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
