Program Area: Communications and Digital Marketing
Purpose / Objective: The Asylum Seekers Centre’s communications team is seeking a creative and detail-oriented volunteer to help elevate our social media presence. This role is focused on creating and editing highly engaging content—particularly short-form video—for our digital channels. This position is ideal for someone with strong video editing skills, an eye for social trends, and basic graphic design knowledge who wants to use their digital storytelling talents to support the ASC community.
Commitment: Minimum 3–6 months to maintain content consistency
Days and hours required per week: Flexible (approx. 5–7 hours per week)
Location: Flexible (hybrid/ASC Office in Newtown/remotely)
Duties & Responsibilities
- Video editing (Essential): Edit engaging, high-quality short-form videos (such as Reels, and event recaps) from raw footage, interviews, or existing ASC archive materials.
- Content creation: Turn long-form stories or organisational updates into punchy, visually appealing, platform-optimised social media clips and posts.
- Collaboration & brainstorming: Work closely with the Communications team to brainstorm creative content ideas that align with ASC’s messaging and campaign goals.
- Project management: Deliver edited assets in line with the social media content calendar and deadlines.
- Project check-ins with Communications team (flexible timing).
Selection Criteria
- Attention to detail and the ability to work with deadlines.
- Excellent storytelling skills. Showcasing a portfolio is essential.
- Proficiency in Canva (desirable)
- Basic graphic design (desirable)
- Experience in working with people from various backgrounds and cultures
- Ability to work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers
- Flexibility and willingness to take on extra tasks as appropriate
- Ability to adhere to policies in relation to code of conduct, boundaries and confidentiality
